The FAA has issued a new Instrument Practical Test Standard, effective 01/01/2010, that reflects the many changes that have occurred not only in the equipment found in today’s aircraft, but also in the way that we teach aeronautical decision making.Major changes include: 1. The acceptance of an LPV approach as a Precision Approach; 2. Adding the hazards of icing and use of anti-icing and de-icing equipment to the special emphasis areas; 3. Creating a matrix by which an examiner can objectively evaluate SRM (Single Pilot Resource Management); 4. Guidance on the use of flight simulators and FTDs for the practical test; 5. Guidance on evaluating “automation management” during the practical test;
