Programs Target Top Ten Fatal Accident Causes

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) is creating a series of “Seminar-in-a-Box” (SIB) products for FAA AFS-850 that focuses on the FAA’s top ten fatal accident causes. The collaborative effort is designed to support new CFI/DPE Forums that will be deployed by the FAASTeam in the first quarter of fiscal year 2011. The seminars are designed to facilitate interactive discussions among instructors, examiners, and FAASTeam members on topics related to flight training and accident prevention.

Each of the seminars developed by SAFE will follow a template established by AFS-850, and will be reviewed and accepted by AFS-850 prior to nationwide deployment. Each SIB will include PowerPoint slides, speaker notes, an optional quiz for those seeking WINGS credit, optional handouts, and other optional supporting material. The first SIB, entitled Failure to Maintain Airspeed–Stalls, has already been approved and will soon be available across the entire FAASTeam system. Additional products will become available on a quarterly basis.

SAFE member-volunteers have been trained to present the CFI Forums.
