Top flight instructors from the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) will be volunteering at the EAA Pilot Proficiency Center at AirVenture 2015 to help pilots improve their flying skills, SAFE Interim Executive Director John Dorcey announced today.  All sessions are free.

“We’ve had great response from SAFE member instructors,” he said.  “They’re jumping at this opportunity to help pilots to improve their skills.”

The Pilot Proficiency Center, to be located east of the control tower near the AirVenture flightline, will include three daily “tech talks” by leading instructors and challenging scenarios for both VFR and IFR pilots on 14 Redbird Advanced Training Devices set up in two training rooms at the Center.

Sponsors for this year’s Center are the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the IMC Club, Jeppesen, Hartzell Propellers, PilotEdge, Mindstar Aviation, FLYING Magazine and Redbird Flight Simulations.  Both SAFE and the National Association of Flight Instructors are providing volunteer instructors for the event, July 20-26.

Mindful of public attention on several recent high-profile airline accidents in which pilot basic flying skills are being questioned, EAA has added several SAFE-developed VFR stick-and-rudder scenarios to the challenging instrument scenarios used last year.

This year’s Center will include a welcome area, a presentation theatre and two simulator rooms.

“The EAA Pilot Proficiency Center is a superb opportunity to sharpen those year-round flying skills in a fun, non-intimidating way,” said Joe Brown, president of event co-sponsor Hartzell Propellers.

SAFE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting aviation education at all levels of learning.  SAFE is a recognized leader in pilot training reform, safety education, and the mentoring of aviation educators.  For information on free resource materials and membership, go to www.safepilots.org.
