Doug Stewart

Doug is currently the Executive Director of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators and the owner of DSFI. Stewart was the 2004 National Flight Instructor of the Year. He is a seven-time Master CFI, a Gold Seal Instructor, and an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner. Doug is an accomplished author with articles that have appeared in “Vintage Airplane,” the FAA Aviation News, Mentor, e-Mentor, Flight Training Magazine and the ASF Instructor Report. He’s also a contributor to Pilotworkshops.com where his presentations on single-pilot IFR are a headline feature.

Rich Stowell (The Spin Doctor)

Rich is the 2006 National Flight Instructor of the Year. He has been instructing full time since 1987 specializing in spin, emergency maneuvers, aerobatic, and tailwheel training. Stowell was designated the “Official Spin Doctor” in 2000 by the International Aerobatic Club (IAC) having conducted more than 32,600 spins. A Master Instructor since 1999 he became the country’s first Master CFI – Aerobatics in February 2001. Rich is recognized worldwide as an accomplished Instructor, author and speaker. He has written several books as well as numerous articles that have appeared in popular aviation magazines such as AOPA Pilot, Flying, and Flight Training.

Jack Vandeventer

Jack is a member of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators and EAA. He lives in Zionsville Indiana just north of Indianapolis. Jack loves to fly and instruct in tail wheel, light sport, Redbird motion simulator, and TAA.  He is a four-time Master Flight Instructor and a FAA Gold Seal Instructor. Jack has presented more than 35 forums at AirVenture, Sun n Fun, Light Sport Symposium, Golden State Fly-In and many other regional stages.  He works with the Indianapolis Flight Standards District Office as a FAA Safety Team member and is an independent CFI with Eagle Flyers at Indianapolis Exec airport and owns Master Instruction. Jack and his family fly a Cessna Cardinal RG and a Piper J3.

Tony Johnstone

Tony is a General Surgeon from Winfield, KS. He has been flying since 1969. A two-time MCI-A, Tony began Knife Edge Aerobatics in 2003 where he specializes in aerobatics and tailwheel instruction. As a FAASTeam representative for the Wichita FSDO Tony is highly sought after presenter, with emphasis on “Stick and Rudder” skills.

Tony Johnstone will be presenting “Stick & Rudder Skills in a Glass Cockpit World” on Thursday, July 26th from 11:00-12:15pm. This will be an interactive discussion of basic flying skills that may have decayed in an automated cockpit, with emphasis on piloting skills, some tips observed from flying with a wide variety of pilots of varying skill and experience levels as well as some practical points that may keep you from becoming a statistic!


Michael Phillips

Michael Phillips has been flying for over 40 years. He is a two-time Master Instructor and a charter member of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators. Teaching is a passion for Michael and he has focused most of his aviation career on training pilots. A Certified Flight Instructor since 1975 Michael is the owner and Chief Flight Instructor and Center Manager for Aviation Instruction Simulator Training Center Camarillo, CA.

Michael Phillips will be presenting “Is it Safe, Is it Legal, Is it Smart, How to Define and Set Personal Limits” on Wednesday July 25th from 12:30-2:00pm.


Hobie Tomlinson

Hobie has been instructing since 1965 and he is the 2012 National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year.  He is employed by Heritage Aviation at Burlington (BTV) and is an independent flight instructor as well as a designated pilot examiner (DPE).  Not only is he a current 5-time Master CFI but in 2010, he earned the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. Tomlinson’s primary areas of specialty are in instrument and multiengine training at the CFI and ATP levels as well as tailwheel aircraft and seaplanes. He is also a Cirrus (CSIP) certified instructor, and has served as an FAA DPE since 1977.

Hobie Tomlinson will be presenting “Avoiding CFIT Why Pilots Run Perfectly Good Airplanes into the Ground” on Monday July 23rd from 9:30-10:45.

Jeff Edwards

Jeff is the 2003 National Flight Instructor of the Year and a six-time Master Instructor. He is the President and founder of the Lancair Owners and Builders Organization (LOBO). Edwards serves on the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee’s Statistics and Analysis team as well as the Loss of Control Working Group. As the president of AvSafe, an independent accident investigation company, as well as a former naval aviator and accident investigator for both the navy and McDonnell Douglas/Boeing Aircraft he has conducted over 500 accident investigations.

Mike Radomsky

Mike Radomsky learned to fly in his native South Africa, where he instructed before immigrating to the USA. Mike was a founding member and President, of the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association (COPA). Today he is President Emeritus of that organization, a member of the Permanent Editorial Board of the Aviators Model Code of Conduct, a Mission Orientation Pilot for Angel Flight West, and a member of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators. He serves as the Las Vegas IMC Club’s Chapter President.

Mike Radomsky will be a member of the Transition Training Panel on Wednesday July 25th from 11:00-12:15pm.


Mark Robidoux

PilotWorkshops.com founder Mark Robidoux is an instrument rated pilot and has been flying since 1995. Before starting PilotWorkshops.com, Mark spent 18 years in high-tech; working for two of the world’s leading software companies while studying for his instrument rating, Mark noticed there was little training available for pilots on the internet. He was convinced there was an opportunity to combine his passion for aviation with his knowledge and experience in web technologies.

Mark Robidoux will moderate two interactive forums from the “IFR Mastery Series this year followed by an open panel discussion. On Friday July 27th from 12:30-2:00 pm will be “Disturbing Discover near San Francisco”, and Saturday July 28th will follow with “Night Approach to Minimums” from 11:00-12:15 pm.

Panelists will include:

John Krug‘s 27 years of experience as an Air Traffic Controller combined with his experience as an active flight instructor, allow him to assist pilots in gaining a better understanding of the ATC system and how to best operate in it. While with the FAA, he was an On-the-Job-Training Instructor for new controllers and worked as a Quality Assurance Specialist, responsible for conducting in-flight evaluations of the Air Traffic System and investigating accidents and incidents.

Doug Stewart is currently the Executive Director of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators and the owner of DSFI, Inc. a company that provides multi-day IFR training programs.

Mark Adams currently serves as the Chairman of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) and has been involved in aviation for more than 38 years. He has flown aircraft ranging from a 1941 Taylorcraft to the McDonald Douglas DC-10 and Airbus A300/310 that he flies in his current job. A 4-time Master Instructor, Mark currently serves as an Airbus Flight Standards Check Airman and Aircrew Program Designee for Federal Express. Mark operates both General Aviation and Air Carrier aircraft in the IFR environment on a regular basis.


Tom Turner

Tom is currently the Executive Director and Manager of Technical Services for the American Bonanza Society. He is a three-time Master Instructor and was named the FAASTeam representative of the year in 2010.Turner is also the founder and president of Mastery Flight Training which specializes in type specific training and pilot education presentations. He is a noted author and presenter having given forum presentations at Air Venture for the last ten years.

Larry Bothe

Larry is a founding member and current Treasurer of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE). He is a Designated Pilot Examiner for the Indianapolis FSDO as well as a six-time Master Instructor. Bothe has been a long time presenter at Air Venture in a variety of forums including the Learn to Fly center where he routinely issues Student Pilot certificates and assists with the “Ask the Instructor” Booth.

Larry Bothe will be presenting “Dealing with Emergencies!” on Saturday July 28th from 8:00-9:15am


Roger Sharp

Roger is currently the General Manager of Flight Operations for RedBird Skyport. He is an active flight instructor and pilot examiner in airplanes, seaplanes, and helicopters. With a Master’s degree in Educational Management Roger has authored over a dozen Part 141 FITS accepted courses for airplanes and helicopters. Roger has represented various aviation industry entities such as RedBird and Cessna Aircraft on FAA Advisory Councils, the most recent being the Aviation Rule Making Committee reviewing Airmen Knowledge Testing.
