David St. George started flying in 1971 and is a 14X Master CFI (airplanes/multi/gliders). David is long-time DPE in fixed wing power (Sport-ATP and initial CFI). He has >16K dual given - running a 141 school for 25 years - and currently also flies SP jet charter.

He has a master's degree from Penn in Psychology and still flies a 7AC Champ for fun. He wrote and maintains the SAFE Toolkit App.

David St. George Executive Director

David St. George is a 14X Master CFI (AIMG) and DPE for over 28 years. He has >16K dual given (Chief Instructor of a 141 school for 25 years) and now flies jet charter in several different Citations.

He has a master's degree from Penn in Psychology and still flies a 7AC Champ for fun.

Daniel Keen

Dan Keen was an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector and is active in the Indiana aviation community with EAA and AOPA. Dan was a flight instructor and Designated Pilot Examiner at Purdue University, a Part 135 charter company owner and pilot, and a police officer in Lafayette, Indiana. He is currently serving his second term on the SAFE Board and is the Board Treasurer.

His awards include Flight Instructor of the Year in 1990 and 2004, and the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award in 2005.

Rob Dumovic

Rob Dumovic has been a professional flight instructor for over 18 years holding CFI/CFII/MEI and now resides in the Boston area. He taught for Kent State University, Executive Flyers Aviation, and Horizon Aviation where he served as Assistant Chief of their 141 program before leaving to focus full time on his business Spread Aviation.

Outside of his business he currently serves as a DPE and flies a Citation Excel for a 135 operator, as well as competitive aerobatics pilot, coach, and National Judge.

In addition to being a board member for SAFE he is also a founding member of the board for the UPRT Network. He has over 11,000 hours in over 70 different types of aircraft, creates educational YouTube videos and Instagram content under his Spread Aviation business.

Wayman Alfredo Luy

Wayman Alfredo Luy, ATP, CFI/CFII/MEI, Gold Seal, 11,000 hrs with 8,000 hrs Flight instruction given. CE-500/CE-510 type rating and Flight-Engineer Turbo Jet. Charter member of the SAFE organization.

Wayman has been an active flight instructor for over 20 years. He is Vice President of Wayman Aviation Academy in South Florida. It is an FAA Part 141 certified academy with 38 aircraft and over 30 instructors. Wayman started his flying career as a Flight Engineer in the DC-8, then flying Citation and Socata TBM 700/850/900s for the factory and as mentor pilot for new owner operators.

Wayman has been mentor, guiding new CFIs as they make their way to their dream jobs instilling safety and best practices to these young aviators.

Julie Boatman was most recently Flying Magazine Editor-in-Chief from 2019-2024, but has a long history in all aspects of aviation education. She first worked for Jeppesen as a technical writer from 1997-2000, then joined Cessna Aircraft Company as the manager, Cessna Pilot Centers (2008-2012) and flight training lead on the Skycatcher core team. She returned to Jeppesen to lead Aviation Training Solutions from 2012-2014.

Julie founded JulietBravoFox Media in 2015 and began a series of development projects with aviation training organizations in Portugal including Leavia/Sevenair at LPCS

Julie is an FAA ATP with Cessna CE-510 and Douglas DC–3 Type Ratings. FAA Flight Instructor, Single Engine, Instrument Airplane, with 2,925 hours total time; 1,200 hours instruction given and more than 80 aircraft models flown; current partnership in an AirCam.

Dorothy Schick

Dorothy Schick is a charter member of SAFE, and a CFI for almost 30 years, running her own fight school and also working in sales, marketing, and advertising for more than 20 years (including with Fortune 500 companies).

She is a Master Instructor and also a prolific writer for AOPA and other publications. Dorothy manages several on-line CFI forums.

H. Michael Miley

H. Michael Miley, Ph.D. is a Master Instructor who holds a Commercial SEL/MEL and CFII. With more than 30 years of experience as both an independent instructor and collegiate educator, he is dedicated to advancing aviation training and developing the next generation of aviators. Michael is currently adjunct faculty and part of the leadership for the College of DuPage’s Part 141 Aviation Program. His passion for mentorship and instructor development has been a hallmark of his career, helping flight educators deliver higher-quality training while fostering safety-conscious, capable pilots.

Michael also brings extensive business and leadership experience from his career with technology firms, where he managed large international teams and implemented innovative solutions. His Ph.D. in Business Strategy and Innovation provides valuable insights for aviation organizations seeking to recruit and retain talent in a competitive industry. Along with his wife, he co-leads Miley Performance Group, providing leadership coaching, strategic planning, and innovation consulting for organizations across industries.

Michael Phillips

Michael Phillips has been trying to master the skills of an Aviation Educator for almost fifty years. He has had the privilege of logging more than 14,000 hours of dual given in a multitude of airplanes from tailwheel to single engine turboprops.

A Gold Seal Instructor, Michael has been a Master Instructor for over eighteen years. He holds CFI, CFII, MEI, IGI, seaplane and glider ratings, and is the recipient of the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot award. He is also a Charter member of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators, serves as the Chairman of the SAFE Board of Directors, and is the National Coordinator for the Master Instructor Continuing Education Program. Michael has been an independent instructor most of his aviation career and is the principal at Aviation Instruction Simulator Center in Camarillo, CA and is on the teaching staff at CP Aviation in Santa Paula, CA

Peter Dawson

Raised through Part 141 training from 2002–2005, I transitioned into commuter flying, operating BE1900s and EMB120s throughout the Rocky Mountains. After three exciting years of challenging flying and lifelong friendships, I achieved my dream in 2008—joining my current airline. My career there has included time as First Officer and Captain on the M88/90, global 757/767 operations as First Officer, and now eight years as a 737 Captain and Line Check Pilot.

While life, family, and work pulled me away from general aviation in 2010, I returned in 2017, actively flying as a CFI and enjoying plane ownership and tailwheel flying on a weekly basis. As I like to say around the airport:“I fly magenta at work and the window at home!”

My true passion lies in learning and teaching aviation from top to bottom, continually challenging myself and others to fly smarter and better. Joining SAFE is an exciting opportunity to learn from the group’s vast experience and contribute toward improving aviation for everyone—from aspiring pilots to seasoned professionals. Doug Auclair

Douglas M. Auclair has been a pilot since 2005, earning his CFI in 2009 (a SAFE founding member). He is now a jet-rated ATP and owner of AIR Ventures Flying School LLC (2010–Present, 3 locations) in the North East. A four-time Master instructor, he was also formerly also a DPE for the Boston FSDO.

Doug recently earned a Master's degree in Space Operations from Embry Riddle, and is the proud owner of a Stinson 108-3. He is married and the proud father of two young future pilots.
