Q & A
What drew you to aviation? Who knows, but Dad transitioned to AT-6 at WWII end.
How long have you been involved in aviation education? Since 1966, and as CFI since 1969. What’s your favorite part of what you do in aviation education? The feeling of contributing to a trainee’s development — at whatever level — using the resources that are in place. Also, creating course content and realizing its successful use. What’s your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education? The mind-grinding resistance of managers who just don’t get it. Do you have a memorable aviation experience you’d like to share? Not yet, but several pleasant ones J Why did you join SAFE? Other groups seem to be wallowing. Mark Adams urged me to join — he and I are co-workers. What would you like to see change in aviation? Crashes and high-profile air evacuation flights are almost about all that the public sees and hears about regarding GA. We need to increase the public’s awareness of the value of all aspects of both GA and the airlines to the quality of life. Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished? Build on AOPA’s and NBAA’s beginnings. Add high school educational and out-reach programs. Obtain and use the media — TV, web sites, social media — and create a Q&A forum for the curious. Any accomplishments in, or noteworthy contributions to aviation and/or aviation education you’d like to mention? I do what I can, and have for over 40 years. Who are your role models in aviation? Various WWII pilots, astronauts, engineers and test pilots. I am also a past aerobatic judge (1970’s) and admirer of all the top competitors. |
